I couldn't find a thread regarding law graduate programs for 2018 so if I have missed it can someone direct me please? If not, then I shall start one here!! Does anyone know if law firms screen applications on a rolling basis like other graduate programs (e.g. Big4 Audit) or do we have to wait until applications close to hear anything? Also, does anyone know what my chances are looking like at the moment? I have a WAM of 69 (poor performance my first 2.5 years but the last 1.5 years my grades have improved dramatically- 1 fail in my first year has lowered my WAM pretty bad:( ).

Have some ECs including volunteering at a legal centre for 8 months and, 1 year legal experience and before that 2 years in banking. Any thoughts on my prospects are appreciated! Hi guys The top tier law firms will usually take candidates with a high WAM (above 80) and immense ECs/work experience in a legal field/academic excellent awards/volunteering.

The clerkship and grad programs are highly competitive. Try applying for mid tier firms if your grades aren't high enough.

Law is a very competitive field with so many graduates and all vying for the big firms. They usually do not do rolling recruitment – in fact, the top tiers usually don't do 'graduate programs' each year and usually select from clerkships.

If they do offer a grad program this year, like any other application, apply early for the best chance. Source: my sister works at a top tier firm. The clerkship and grad programs are highly competitive. There is no doubt that getting a top-tier position is competitive.

However, you certainly do not need a WAM above 80 (assuming we are talking about law marks only). A law WAM of 80 is roughly the cut-off for first class honours at USYD and UNSW. This is a very limited number of students. There wouldn't be enough clerks to go around if top tiers set the benchmark this high. Yes, I am describing overall WAM for applicants, and their GPA across their entire degree. Top tiers will normally take honours students. That was my point. My sister has graduates in her team at a top tier firm, and they all have the qualifications like I described. I have other friends in other top tier firms who describe similar qualifications for graduates in their teams. I'm not saying it's impossible, but it's definitely an advantage. Top tiers are incredibly, incredibly competitive, and the apparently 'limited' amount of graduates like you describe who have a WAM over 80 are inevitably the ones who receive these positions.

I think what keep-dreaming is saying is that the number of students from these universities with law WAMs above 80 is miniscule — in my year no more than 5. Yet there are probably about 100 graduates from USyd and UNSW combined at top-tier firms each year. So mathematically, most top-tier graduates from these universities must not have 80 WAMs.

@razzle generally no because nsw clerks will generally get grad offers from their firm. The only scenario I can think of applicants with clerkship experience applying is either they have not received a grad offer from their firm or they are aiming for a bigger firm such as KWM. So yes I expect KWM will receive applications from individuals with clerkship experience but other firms probably not. @law Jones Day will not get back to you unless you are successful. I dont think anyone has ever received a rejection from them either for clerkships or grad. Download rayko dragon soul rar.
