We've snagged the storyline from Ultra Game Players Online again, and now, you can finally find out what the hell the dragoon's are all about! Thousands of years ago, before the Golden Age, mankind was following the road of decline. The race of mankind lost its former power and was soon referred to as 'Aggressive Animals.' Soon, man developed science and soon after, the ancestors of man's past were discovered. Using its new found science skills, man attempted worked on the ancestors' gene and DNA reconstruction which gave birth to hideous monsters. And while humans were afraid of them, they lived amongst them. During this era, mankind declared its restoration of rights, and The Empire boasted its might, using a newly discovered power.
This power was the lost power of the 'Old Century.' The Empire took possession of 'the relic,' which was found in the dead ruins of the Old Century's City and military facilities, along with weapons and tools. The story takes place from the Empire's excavation site.
Enter the patrolling hunter party. One of these hunters is Edge. This day, Edge and his party are hunting 'Aggressive Animals.' However, these hunters are attacked by an aerial fleet, leaving only Edge as the survivor. He asks the man who spearheaded the attack, Kremain, why he attacked them, but Kremain only shoots Edge and tosses him down into the depths of the pit where the relic was discovered. Plummeting to his death, Edge is saved by an 'Aggressive Animal'- a dragon. The dragon shows Edge his vision of a yet unseen strange shaped relic.
From here, the dragon begins flying. The ever-careful Edge stands in front of the dragon. He climbs onto his neck, and mounts onto his back.
This is where the story begins. Update April 15 Thanks to our sister site, Ultra Game Players Online, we've got an inside line on the characters involved in the RPG. There are over 20 known characters, including: Hero-EDGE (15 years old)- The hero of the story.
He belonged to a hunting party, lead by Kreimen, whose specialty is hunting fierce animals. Now, he pursues all of Kreimen's group on a special trip for the sole purpose of killing them. However, since he is just a boy, the player must take the responsibility to raise him into a man on this trip.
Kreimen- The Empire's Elite (48 years old)- While he was the Empire's army elite, he rose against it and is now the leader of the Rebellion. He plundered an important excavated artifact containing 'Azel,' and escaped with it. He isn't a cold-blooded person, but, he does hide his own feelings, and is the kind of man to tell those under him to 'come and die!' Demi-Human Azel (age unknown)- A demi-human from the Old Times. She was excavated from the historical ruins, and was awakened by Kreimen's hand. She is a sensitive person, but in her weakened condition, she can only judge and give results.
The Saturn community gave a collective 'Yes!' When news of the Panzer Dragoon RPG first broke. The first two Panzer Dragoon games showed off all the Saturn's capabilities, mixing great music with beautiful and disturbing imagery, delivered with panache.
Both games were hits, and thousands of players were eager to learn more about the Panzer Dragoon world. Now they can.
Has taken their world and their graphics engine, and turned it into an role playing game. Although it's still you and your pet dragon flying and attacking, you'll be able to leave the action behind and explore the quieter parts of the world. As the man, you'll visit various towns, gathering information and supplies, while smoothly walking through full 3D towns.
What else may transpire while you're in town is all part of the drama. However, Team Andromeda isn't turning Azel into a typical RPG. You'll still be doing a lot of flying and fighting, and if nothing else, you'll get more of that crazy Dragoon action. The lasers, the impressive scenery and music will all work together to draw you into that other world.
New to this game, though, are two RPG aspects which should enhance gameplay. It looks like you'll have an alternate (or main) combat method, similar to standard RPG turn-based combat, where your dragoon will attack, then get attacked, and so on. Whether this will replace the more arcady traditional Panzer Dragoon shooter action isn't known yet. The coolest part, though, is that you'll be able to raise your dragoon to do different things. While the dragoon in Panzer Dragoon II Zwei could metamorphosize, your Dragoon can take one of several different developmental paths, depending on how you raise it.
